Additional replacement labour during a vehicle inspection: generally ¥0

From kei cars and kei vans to passenger cars, we explain the basic service charges, statutory costs and parts costs separately, so you can understand what you are paying for.

This applies to ordinary parts replacement carried out together with the vehicle inspection. We explain any exceptions, such as special work, and their costs in advance.

A clear breakdown, even when parts need replacing

Brake pads, belts and batteries: pay for the parts only

Brake pad replacement

Additional replacement labour is generally ¥0. You pay for the parts.

Belt replacement

Additional replacement labour is generally ¥0 for ordinary replacement work.

Battery replacement

Additional replacement labour is generally ¥0. You pay for the parts.

What “generally ¥0” covers, and what you still pay

We generally do not charge additional replacement labour for ordinary replacement work carried out with a vehicle inspection. The basic inspection service, statutory costs, replacement parts and fluids are still payable. Where the amount of work increases significantly or special work is needed, we explain the work and cost beforehand and proceed after your agreement. Work involving special disassembly or removal, such as timing belt replacement, is assessed individually.

If you request replacement work separately from a vehicle inspection, the normal labour charges apply.

Calculate your vehicle inspection estimate

You can try the calculator without a chassis number, name or phone number. Use your registration certificate to select the relevant details. Leave unknown information unconfirmed: costs that cannot be determined are shown as “To be confirmed”, separately from known amounts.

Statutory costs + basic inspection-related charges + replacement parts and fluids = estimated inspection total. The basic inspection-related charges are broken down into the inspection service, handling fee and tester fee.

1. Vehicle category

Please contact us for 1-series cargo vehicles, special-purpose vehicles and rental vehicles. If you are unsure of the classification for a truck of 2 tonnes or more, select “Not sure”.

2. Registration certificate and inspection

Vehicle age is determined from the first registration / inspection month. A hybrid badge alone does not establish eligibility for a tax reduction. Use the official weight tax lookup guidance (Japanese); the official lookup may require a chassis number.

3. Compulsory automobile liability insurance

Premiums depend on the policy start date. Your existing policy may mean that 25 or 13 months of cover is required.

4. Replacement parts and fluids

Calculations and printing are handled in this page. Calculating or saving a PDF does not submit your entries to iWorks.

Current calculation reference

Rates checked: 2026-10-26. Rate table: 2026-10-26.1. Review deadline: 2027-03-31. The estimate uses the current Japanese calculator’s rates and calculation engine. It covers ordinary renewal inspections; inspection fees are for a vehicle brought to an inspection centre.

What the estimate includes

The basic service, handling fee and tester fee are shown including tax. No consumption tax is added to weight tax, compulsory liability insurance or the official inspection fee. If parts and fluids have not been entered, the estimate excludes them. If a statutory cost or another required amount is unconfirmed, no overall total is shown; only the sum of the amounts already calculated is displayed.

The amount may change after checking the vehicle, registration certificate and insurance policy. Costs for a re-inspection, structural changes or special work will be explained beforehand when needed.

What to know before your inspection

Vehicle inspection and online estimate FAQs

Is labour free for every part replaced during an inspection?

This applies to ordinary parts replacement carried out at the same time as the inspection. Additional labour for work such as brake pad, belt and battery replacement is generally not charged. Special work or a significant increase in the work required is explained and quoted beforehand. Parts and fluids are charged separately.

How can I keep inspection costs down for a kei car or van?

Compare the total cost, including statutory charges, handling fees, tester fees and necessary replacement parts, rather than the basic fee alone. At iWorks, we inspect the vehicle and explain the necessary work and costs separately. Necessary safety-related maintenance is explained before proceeding.

Can I calculate an estimate for a black-plate kei van?

Select “Kei van / kei cargo vehicle” and “Commercial use”. Weight tax differs between private and commercial use. An estimate is shown when the entered conditions are supported and confirmed; unknown conditions need to be checked against the registration certificate.

Can I request a booking when the estimate says “To be confirmed”?

Yes. We leave undetermined costs visibly unconfirmed instead of guessing them. You can save an estimate containing those items as a PDF and carry its details into the booking request form. You can also share the PDF through LINE. We check the registration certificate and other relevant documents before giving you the formal costs.

Can I get an estimate without entering a chassis number or personal information?

A chassis number, name and phone number are not required for the calculation. A reservation request requires your name and contact details. We may separately need the registration certificate or other information for an accurate weight tax lookup or formal quotation.

Will the amount on the PDF be my final bill?

The PDF is an estimate based on the conditions you enter. Parts and fluids, unconfirmed statutory charges and work found necessary when the vehicle is inspected may change the total. We explain the work and cost before it is carried out.
